Toyota will offer to fix the accelerator pedals of some 4 million cars in its largest-ever U.S. recall, Kyodo News reported on Saturday. The models include the 2007-2010 Camry, 2005-2010 Avalon, 2004-2009 Prius, 2005-2010 Tacoma, 2007-2010 Tundra, 2007-2010 Lexus ES350, and 2006-2010 Lexus IS250. The vehicles will be serviced at U.S. dealerships.

Some 16,500 units of the recalled models have been sold in Korea -- 10,500 Lexus ES350s, 5,500 Lexus IS250s, and 500 Camrys, which were only launched here last month. It is currently unclear if Toyota will offer to service these cars. "We have not received concrete instructions from headquarters yet, but the matter will be discussed," a Toyota Korea spokesman said.

The service offer is an expansion of a voluntary recall announced in September of 3.8 million Toyota and Lexus cars in the U.S. in response to fatal accidents blamed on accelerator pedals getting stuck in floor mats. The number of affected vehicles has increased by 200,000 because the new notice includes sold after the recall in September.

Toyota was criticized in the U.S. media and by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for claiming after the recall that its vehicles had no flaws other than the floor mats.
