Mercedes-Benz has recalled certain 2009 S-Class sedans due to a faulty door lock.
A defect notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration explains that, due to a labeling error, "It could be that the front and rear passenger side door locks were interchanged during production. The exchange of a front and a rear passenger side door lock would result in a passenger side door that cannot be opened by merely pulling on the interior handle and a rear door lock that can be opened with a simple pull of the interior door handle even if locked."
Mercedes dealers will inspect affected vehicles, and if necessary, replace any incorrectly installed locks at no charge to the owner. Dealers will begin notifying S-Class owners of this recall this week. Those who wish to make their own repair arrangements may contact Mercedes-Benz at (800) 367-6372.
