Product recalls: Peanut butter products

The following recalls have been announced:

_The South Bend Chocolate Co. of South Bend, Ind., is expanding its earlier recall of candy that contains peanut butter, because it could be contaminated with salmonella. This organism can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. No illness has been reported. The recalled candy was all sold under the South Bend Chocolate Co. brand and was made on or after July 2008. It was sold in boxes and in bulk bins. Boxes or baskets with a round, gold sticker on the bottom are not included in the recall. Details: by phone at 574-233-2577.

_Jimmy's Chocolate Chip Cookies Inc. of Fair Lawn, N.J., is recalling peanut butter chocolate chunk cookies and cookie dough sold under the Jimmy's Cookies and One Smart Cookie brands, because they could be contaminated with salmonella. This organism can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. No illness has been reported.

The recalled cookies come in four-ounce, 12.5-ounce and 18-ounce packs. The recalled dough comes in 15-pound, 20-pound and 25-pound foodservice packs with pack dates 12/4/08 through 1/14/09. They were available in eastern, southern and midwestern states at supermarket bakeries, convenience stores and lunch trucks. Details: by phone at 800-937-5050.

_Trader Joe's of Monrovia, Calif., is recalling its branded seven-ounce containers of sliced green apples with all-natural peanut butter, because they could be contaminated with salmonella. This organism can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. No illness has been reported. The apples were sold at Trader Joe's stores around the country. Details: by phone at 626-599-3817.

_Brent and Sam's of North Little Rock, Ark., is recalling two flavors of Archer Farms cookies and one flavor of Sam's Choice cookies, because they could be contaminated with salmonella. This organism can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. No illness has been reported.

The recall includes various date codes of Archer Farms brand Milk Chocolate Monster Chewy Soft Baked cookies and Double Peanut Butter Chewy Soft Baked cookies. They were sold at Target and Super Target stores around the country. It also includes two date codes of Sam's Choice brand Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter cookies.
