Police in suburban Las Vegas say officers fatally shot a man in a hospital emergency room after he brandished a gun and threatened suicide.
Henderson police spokesman Todd Rasmussen said officers fired multiple times after the man refused to drop the handgun and instead raised it toward police. It was not clear if the man fired his weapon, but no one else was injured early Wednesday at the St. Rose Dominican Hospital Siena campus.
Rasmussen said a nurse supervisor summoned police after the man made suicidal statements and said he had a gun. Hospital staff evacuated the emergency room as police responded.
About the same time, the man's family was notifying police that he was suicidal.
