Driver in fatal bus crash faced speeding charge

Legal News     updated  2010/01/12 09:31

Conn. - State records show that the driver in a fatal school bus crash in Hartford last weekend had appeared in court last week on allegations he drove a school bus at nearly 80 mph in September.

The Department of Motor Vehicles suspended 44-year-old Paul Burns' right to drive a school bus Monday, and officials say he wasn't qualified to drive the bus involved in Saturday's crash because his license was for smaller buses.

The Hartford Courant reports DMV officers stopped Burns on Interstate 91 in Hartford for driving 78 mph in a 50 mph zone Sept. 10. Burns appeared in state court last week, but prosecutors declined to pursue the speeding charge.
