5 dead, 2 injured in plane crash at NM airport

Legal News     updated  2010/06/17 15:12

Authorities say a plane that crashed Thursday morning in New Mexico, killing five people onboard, was registered to an owner in Granbury, Texas.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Lynn Lunsford says he doesn't have any information about the flight plan for the twin-engine Cessna 310.

The tail number shows the airplane is registered to Rod Aviation in Granbury.

State police and Lincoln County emergency management officials say five people were killed and two others were injured after the plane apparently overshot the runway at the Sierra Blanca Regional airport near Ruidoso (REE'-uh-DOH'-soh), about 130 miles south of Albuquerque.

County emergency manager Travis Atwell says two people were pulled from the wreckage and taken to a hospital. He says it's too early to tell what may have caused the accident.
