Health officials in Idaho and Minnesota are reporting two more deaths associated with a nationwide salmonella outbreak that has sickened more than 400 people in 43 states.

That brings the total number of people who had salmonella when they died to five, though their causes of death have not been determined.

Lynchburg, Va.-based Peanut Corp. of America has issued a nationwide recall of peanut butter made in its Georgia plant and sold to institutions.

The recall was issued after an open container of peanut butter in a long-term care facility in Minnesota was found to contain a strain of salmonella.

Idaho and Minnesota officials each reported one death Wednesday. Minnesota also reported one death Tuesday. The others were in Virginia.
